Little Shop of Horrors
Book and Lyrics by Howard Ashman, Music by Alan Menken

A deviously delicious Broadway and Hollywood sci-fi smash musical, Little Shop of Horrors has devoured the hearts of theatergoers for over 30 years. Howard Ashman and Alan Menken are the creative geniuses behind what has become one of the most popular shows in the world.

The meek floral assistant Seymour Krelborn stumbles across a new breed of plant he names "Audrey II" - after his coworker crush. This foul-mouthed, R&B-singing carnivore promises unending fame and fortune to the down-and-out Krelborn as long as he keeps feeding it, BLOOD. Over time, though, Seymour discovers Audrey II's out-of-this-world origins and intent toward global domination!

CHARACTERS
*Ages are playable ages.
CRYSTAL, RONNETTE, & CHIFFON (THE URCHINS) –
Ages 16 - 25, Black/African-American, Female-Identifying, Various Vocal Ranges
Three strong, smart, hilarious, and hip Black women living in Skid Row. They act within the world, but their true task is to aid the plant in its mission for world domination. In this production the Urchins will be extensions of the plant. Vocally they are strong part-singers that resemble the iconic girl groups of the 60s (The Supremes, The Ronettes, Martha and the Vandellas, etc.)

SEYMOUR KRELBORN –
Aged 20 - 30, Male-Identifying, Bari-Tenor (A2 - G4)
A genuine and well-intentioned man with poor social skills, who just wants to make the girl he loves happy. However, he is misguided and gives into temptation, making him the unlikely hero and villain of our story. Vocally he has a spoken-like quality and may use a soft-moderate New Yorker accent.

AUDREY –
Aged 20 - 30, Female-Identifying, Mezzo-Soprano (G#3 - D5)
A sweet and kind-hearted soul that lacks any sense of self-worth or awareness. She is the product of her environment, which has completely stripped her of all confidence and instead replaced it with fallacies of normality. Vocally she resembles Marilyn Monroe, Judy Holiday, and other iconic women of the 1950s & 60s and has a moderate New Yorker accent.

MR./MRS. MUSHNIK –
Aged 45 - 65, Any Identity, Baritone/Mezzo-Soprano
A begrudged middle-aged failure of a florist. Whatever passion they had for their craft died long ago. However, their greed hasn’t, as soon as the money is flowing again their attitude adjusts dramatically. Vocally they sound mature and dark, they speak with a moderate New Yorker Accent.

ORIN –
Aged 25 - 40, Male-Identifying, Bari-Tenor (G2 - G4)
An egotistical and commanding dentist with cruel tendencies. He is the peak of 1960s “trouble:” wearing leather, riding a motorcycle, and abusing his partner. In a traditional story, he would be the antagonist. Vocally he sounds cool and may utilize some rock tones, he speaks with no accent.

AUDREY TWO (VOICE OF THE PLANT) –
Any Age. Any Gender Identity. Baritone/Mezzo R & B Vocalist
A conniving and charismatic voice actor with a silky-smooth quality that sings and voices the plant from off stage. They are commanding and consume the space without ever stepping a foot on stage. Resembling that of Barry White, Gladys Knight, Otis Redding, Patti Labelle, and other soul/R&B legends.

ENSEMBLE –
All ages, gender identities, and voice types
A small (4-8 person) ensemble that will take on small featured roles and act as extensions of the Plant/Urchins, the un-homed community, and environment building. These cast members will most likely also be given an understudy track for one of the principles, and one will act as the puppeteer of The Plant.
